ATA Lecture Series "Tunisians and their Hopes for Democracy"

Speaker:

Hatem Bourial

The American Tunisian Association (ATA) lecture series continues with the lecture "Towards Democracy." Who are the new actors in Tunisian political life? What are the new challenges after the first free elections? What are the next milestones in the roadmap leading towards Tunisian democracy? Hatem Bourial is a well known figure in Tunisia's world of culture and the press. Over the years, he has worked for many Tunisian and international papers. He is the former director of Maison Ibn Khaldoun, the main cultural center in Tunis, a former consultant to the United Nations Develop Program (UNDP) in Tunisia, a chairperson for the local American Field Service (AFS), as well as having worked with international organizations such as Save the Children, the United State's Peace Corps in Tunisia. Hatem's keen sense of Tunisian politics and his familiarity with many of the personalities involved will underscore his insightful analysis of Tunisia's recent October 23rd elections. Lectures are all free and open to the public.
